Others

Church family,

It is has been an overwhelming and unexpected week for Glennville, the surrounding communities, the state of Georgia, and the southeastern United States with Hurricane Helene.

Our eyes have seen fallen trees on roads and homes, limbs everywhere, farmers picking up the pieces, phones with “SOS” or “no signal” at the top of the screen, power lines down everywhere you look, and cars searching for gasoline and cell service.

Our ears heard the sounds of chainsaws, trucks filled with linemen, conversations with neighbors,  and everyone checking on each other.

Our hearts were burdened as the things we often take for granted were gone in an instant. Yet, our hearts were overwhelmed with gratitude as we watched people come together to love and care for one another in this difficult time.

These words from the Scriptures come to our mind: “Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4)

How powerful is it that in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene we have seen the power of considering others as more important than ourselves? How powerful is it to see that meeting the needs of others before our own leaves us in a better place than only considering our own?
