Forgiven

In Matthew 18:21-35, we are introduced to the parable of the unforgiving servant.

The parable essentially tells a story about a very gracious and compassionate master who forgives the debts of his servant, but his servant does not replicate that grace and compassion.

Matthew 18:33-35 says, “'Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And because he was angry, his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured until he could pay everything that was owed. So also my Heavenly Father will do to you unless every one of you forgives his brother or sister from your heart” (CSB).

In verse 34, Jesus shared that the servant was handed over until he could pay everything that was owed.

Here’s the key problem, though, for us: We could never repay the debt we owe.

We, sinners, have been forgiven of the greatest debt imaginable: sin against our perfect and holy Father.

Since we have been forgiven of so much, let’s direct our hearts toward extending forgiveness toward all. We may feel like someone hasn’t earned our forgiveness. My question would be, “Have we earned God’s forgiveness?”
