Knowing Our Authority

I was recently watching a television program based on the life of David and was reminded again of the source of my faith. Any good that I accomplish is all because of God Almighty and none other. It was because young David believed his strength came from the Lord that he defeated Goliath. Many times when David, a “man after God’s own heart”, was in trouble the Lord helped him; victory over Goliath, survival as a fugitive on the run from King Saul, and military conquests against overwhelming odds. God’s intervention in David’s life was amazing. God’s intervention in our lives can also be amazing, if we receive His guidance, acknowledge His authority, and prepare ourselves.

As a boy, back when it seemed that young David would never be anything but a simple, anonymous shepherd, he was honing his skills with the harp and the slingshot. Even when his older brothers tried to discourage him by telling him he would never amount to anything, he never stopped preparing himself with constant practice. Are you doing your part in preparation for God to do something great in your life? Your efforts to be spiritually fit may be integral to God’s plans for your future.

I was recently asked why I was planning to go to Cuba in October with Jubal Ministries on a mission trip, knowing that it was a Communist country. I immediately thought of Jesus and the Samaritan woman, and I answered that I was going because the people of Cuba need the hope that can only be found in Jesus as much as the folks here in Glennville. The Sons of Jubal and Jubalheirs are learning several songs in Spanish so we can hopefully share better the gospel of Christ. We are preparing ourselves, as David did, for how He can use us. God’s power to transform you and me is far beyond what we may now envision. I am trusting in the power and authority of Jesus Christ, are you?

Your servant, Phillip
