Our Great God
Our God is a great God! Psalm 104 declares His greatness, and encourages us to continually consider the ways He demonstrates His greatness. First we are reminded that He is great in the way that He carries Himself. He is clothed with majesty and splendor; He covers Himself in light; He walks on the wings of the wind. He is awesome as he moves about.
He is also great as Creator. Everything that is, is because of His desire and effort in creation. Everything originates from Him, and exists for His purposes. Third, His greatness is seen in His sustaining power. He personally provides for everything He created. From growing grass for the cattle to growing the cedars of Lebanon, He willingly works to satisfy the need of every living creature.
The psalmist exhorts us to “let the Lord be glad in His works.” (vs. 31) Let us constantly consider His steadfast love and provision. Let us express to Him our gratitude, and acknowledge that he alone is to be praised. The psalmist asserts that he will “sing praise to my God while I have my being” (vs. 33) as his way of expressing gratitude. May our expressions of praise cause Him to be glad in His works.
