I Can Only Imagine

“I Can Only Imagine” is a popular song that helps us consider what our reactions might be when we first behold Jesus in heaven.  Truth is we’ll have to wait to find out.  What we think we’ll do and what we actually do will probably be different.

The reactions of the disciples to the risen Jesus were varied. Since they didn’t fully understand or believe that He would be raised they weren’t prepared to behold the living Christ.  In Matt. 28 the ladies left the tomb with fear and great joy.  When they met Jesus they took hold of His feet and worshipped Him.  When the disciples saw Him they worshipped Him, but some were doubtful.

In Luke 24, Peter went to the tomb, looked in, and went home marveling at what had happened.  The chapter ends with Jesus ascending into heaven.  At this point the disciples “after worshipping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising God.”  We can imagine about our response in heaven one day, here and now let’s make every day a celebration of the One who was raised.
