From the Pastor (Here I Am)
Sunday, August 6th, we’ll spend the morning looking at Isaiah 6:1-13. The prophet, Isaiah, is called to service to the Lord. Isaiah has a message, given to him from the Lord, that is going to fall on deaf ears. However, he is going to remain faithful.
Isaiah 6:8 says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: Who will I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me.”
When I was 18 years old, I had the opportunity to attend a small Bible college in Florida called, “Word of Life Bible College.” I knew God was calling me to ministry, but I had no idea what that would look like. I had the opportunity to go to the school and I went. After 3 weeks, I kept having panic attacks and was uncertain if I could continue. At that point, I sensed God’s Holy Spirit telling me, “Just wait here. This is what I have for you.” However, the panic attacks and anxiety became worse and worse, and I decided to leave the school.
Before leaving, I had to meet with a counselor to discuss why I was dropping out of the school. I’ll never forget the question he asked… “Brandon, is this your decision or God’s?” It was at that moment I knew that I was being disobedient to God’s call, but I still chose my own way. Did God bless the path I was set on anyway? Of course. He’s gracious, after all. However, I always wonder what God would have done in my life if my response mirrored Isaiah’s. “Lord, Here I am."
