What Is Prayer?

If the Bible is our food, then prayer is our air.  It’s the way by which we draw in the atmosphere of God.  It’s a conversation...and conversations include both speaking and listening.
Prayer is rich and varied.  Sometimes we confess our sins in a prayer of repentance.  Sometimes we praise God in worship and thanksgiving.  Sometimes we ask God for help and grace to meet whatever comes our way.  Sometimes we pray for other people.

Sometimes we’re quiet, knowing that when we stop clamoring and pleading our case, there comes a sense of God’s reply, some indication of His will, some message from Him to us.

Prayer is not only a way of seeking guidance and help from the Lord.  Prayer is the means by which we seek God Himself.

“Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!  Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually!” (Psalm 105:3-4 ESV)

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh, what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer
