Set Free to Willing Love & Joyfully Give
Jesus in his life “did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life for the ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:23) He came to set free those who were hopelessly bound in the chains of sin.
Church family, we are those people who have been set free! On the other hand, we must understand that there is a purpose for this freedom. What do the Scriptures tell us?
Paul to the church of Galatia wrote “for you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.” (Galatians 5:13)
Our only reasonable response to being set free in Christ is to lay our lives down to serve and love others. The reality is that not only should we do it because we’ve been called to, but because we want to!
We should willingly love and joyfully give of ourselves to those in our church, in our community, and in our relationships.
Paul himself clearly captured this type of love and care in his words to these believers of Thessalonica when he wrote, “We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.” (1 Thessalonians 2:8)
Is your heart overflowing with love and care for the people God has called you to love? Is your love characterized by a desire and devotion to share with them about Jesus and to show them Jesus?
How can you take a step of obedience this week in light of this?
