Family Tree

Many people have worked on their family trees gathering data about the generations that went before them.  This can yield some helpful information about health issues in a family and reveal connections with other families that were unexpected.

Have you tried charting a spiritual family tree?  Who were the people who have helped you grow in faith?  Perhaps you had a Sunday school teacher who was especially important to your faith development.  Interview that person.  Find out who (or what) was important in their growing up as a disciple of Jesus.  Ask about books as well as people.  You may be amazed at the number of folks who are in your “tree.”  What a wonderful gift God has given us in those who have passed the faith to us.

Now consider how your life is an example to others.

Are you helping anyone grow in their faith?

Will you be in someone else’s spiritual family tree?

We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about His power and His mighty wonders.  So the next generation might know them — even the children not yet born — and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting His glorious miracles and obeying His commands.  Psalm 78:4,6-7 NLT

I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you...So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord...For God saved us and called us to live a holy life.  2 Timothy 1:5,8,9 NLT
